Staffeler Hof 'Papa Panda's Rising' Riesling

Weingut Staffelter-Hof is the oldest working winery in the world, and one of the oldest companies of any kind in the world. At almost 1,200 years old records show that this estate was long owned by the Belgian Benedictine Abbey of Stavelot. established in 862 AD. Secularised in the early 1800's it has been in the Klein Family ever since.
Jan Matthias, a 7th gen winemaker at the estate a proponent of naturweine (Natural Wine). The Papa Panda's Rising is part of Klein's Pandamonium range, which he collaborates with small grower/ producers to support and encourage organics, and lo-fi wine making.
One part is from 'Enkircher Steffensberg' and the other half from "Krov Letterlay' vineyards, both certified organic and planted on steep grey slate soils. Handpicked, macerated for 12 hours and wild fermented. Resulting wine remained on lees for 12 months. Unfined, unfiltered and preservative free.
